Death penalty advocacy

As an abolitionist, I believe in abolishing the death penalty and prison industrial complex. I do not care what type of crime was committed, I do not believe the state should have the ability to execute anyone. The origins of policing and the death penalty in this country are racist and beyond reform. As a spiritual practitioner, I do not believe it is spiritual to ignore the oppression and suffering in the world. I believe we are all interconnected and carry a divine responsibility to one another.

Advocacy Work

In 2026 I worked alongside death row inmates Sonny Burton's team and Jeffery Lee's team during clemency campaigns and have partnered with Death Penalty Action in recent years. I am currently working with Tony Von Carruthers' team (Tony experienced Tennessee's first botched execution attempt on May 21, 2026 before Christa Pike’s botched execution attempt on September 30, 2026).

What Made You So Vocal About the Death Penalty?

I grew up with a younger sister who had Rett Syndrome and was severely disabled. My sister Melissa was nonverbal and the absolute joy of life. Growing up with her I walked alongside her as her favorite person in the world and her fiercest advocate. I had the unique experience of navigating and witnessing how marginalized people, in this case disabled people, are treated in our society—othered, neglected, silenced, and harmed from system failures and injustices. For as long as I could remember: I wanted to be my sister’s voice and help make a difference in this world.

I

t’s also important to name that my sister’s experience as a disabled person is nothing compared to what someone suffers or experiences on death row. My sister and I are also White, and benefit from privilege. I believe that the prison industrial complex and death penalty are some of the gravest injustices unfolding in our country, as they both continue to thrive because of the 13th Amendment, a modernized and legalized form of enslavement that targets the most marginalized populations.

I am interested in using my platform to give a voice to the voiceless and the most marginalized. If you are interested in collaborating or have a client that you would like me to consider as a guest on my podcast, please reach out via the contact form on my website.
